Who else loves dessert for breakfast?

Lately this has been my go to smoothie bowl to make in the morning and it never gets old. Not to mention it is packed with good sources of protein, fats, carbs, and essential vitamins/minerals!

On my most recent trip to Whole Foods, I decided to try Wild Friends Chocolate Coconut Peanut Butter. Lets just say I was a girl on a mission to find a chocolate nut butter to satisfy my chocolate loving soul. And man did this do all of that and more! This is actually where this smoothie bowl gets its coconut and peanut butter flavor!

Aside from this delicious nut-butter, this smoothie bowl is also packed with tons of nutrients that will set you up to have an awesome day!

Bananas

Bananas are a great source of essential vitamins and minerals such as:

Potassium- helps to lower blood pressure and promotes cardiovascular health.

Vitamin B6- an important vitamin that helps assist in the metabolising of protein. (Fun fact: just one banana can provide your body with around 33% of the recommended DV of vitamin B6!)

Vitamin C- Helps to build a strong immune system, promotes cardiovascular health, helps with eyesight, and decreases skin wrinkling.

Cocoa Powder

Cocoa powder is a good way to help get in a balance of all the essential macronutrients, coming in at around 1 gram of protein, .74 grams of fat, and 3 grams of carbohydrates per serving! It also provides an excellent source of copper and magnesium (these help enzymes carry out essential functions in your cells!). It is also a great source of iron- a mineral necessary for the transport of oxygen to our cells!

Strawberries

Strawberries contain a bunch of antioxidants which aid in preventing chronic disease such as cancer and cardiovascular disease. Like bananas, they also provide a good amount of vitamin C and have been shown to slow down the aging process in humans. It also a fruit that aids in the natural detoxing of the body.

Mulberries

These are my absolute favorite! They contain a combination of vitamins and minerals that are also found in fruits such as vitamin C, Iron, and potassium. They also provide a good source of vitamin K1, which supports bone health and aids in the prevention of blood clotting. Given the high iron content in mulberries, they have also been shown to increase blood circulation throughout the body. Mulberries also consist of 7% of the recommended daily value of dietary fiber per serving; therefore, mulberries also have the power to do wonders for our digestion and reduce constipation, bloating, and cramping!

Peanut Butter

Nut butters are excellent providers of fat and protein (Fun fact:These macronutrients are also a huge indicator of satiety and fullness!). Depending on the type of nut butter (peanut, almond, cashew, etc.), they can also offer a variety of different vitamins and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and more!

Medicinal Mushrooms

Medicinal mushrooms in nature are used to help promote a healthy environment by working symbiotically with the trees and soil. Who knew they could do the same with humans!? Benefits of medicinal mushrooms include:

  • boosted immunity

  • increased energy

  • hormonal balancing

  • reduced fatigue

  • unification of bodily systems and organs

Just like the ecosystems in nature, our body is an ecosystem within itself, and it is important that we make sure all of the independent systems work in unisine with one another!

I plan on making another post targeted on the nutritional value of plant based foods, but I hope this gave you a taste as to how nutritious and delicious smoothie bowls can be! It's truly like eating the best of both worlds!

Anyway, here is the recipe to make this smoothie bowl:

Ingredients

  • 3-4 frozen bananas

  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 1 tsp medicinal mushroom powder (I use Super Feast Mason's Mushrooms)

  • water (to blend)

  • strawberries

  • mulberries

  • 1 tbsp Wild Friends Chocolate Coconut Peanut Butter

Procedure

  1. Blend the bananas, cocoa powder, and medicinal mushroom powder in a high speed blender with water until it reaches your desired consistency (using less water will make the smoothie bowl more thick),

  2. Pour into a bowl and top with sliced strawberries, mulberries, and the chocolate coconut peanut butter.

  3. Dive in and enjoy!

I hope you enjoy this super simple, yet SUPER TASTY smoothie bowl recipe!
